Miners out in regional first round

The second round of tournaments in the post-season ratchets up the consequences for teams that don’t play up to their potential. Wilton-Wing’s first round game in the tournament came against the Grant County Coyotes, and the Miners didn’t play nearly as well as the eventual Regional Champion Coyotes, which resulted in their being eliminated in three straight sets on Monday. Grant County set the tone with an overwhelming 25-11 performance in the first set with Ashley Bentz and Chelsey Lince streaking kills down on the Miners’ side. Heidi Clausen was one of the few point scorers for Wilton-Wing as she had several kills per set, but the Coyotes continued to roll to easy wins with a 25-15 second set. With the Miners facing their swan song in the third set, Wilton-Wing senior Chasidy Nelson replaced her familiar white libero jersey with one colored Miner purple for a chance to play in the front row.
