The Wilton-Wing girls would narrowly miss out on a shot at the District Championship this weekend, but still take a third-place finish and a ticket to regionals.
The Miners headed into last week’s District 10 tournament in Garrison as the second seed, just below Center-Stanton. Wilton-Wing would square up against the No. 7 Cossacks on
Thursday afternoon, with eyes on a semifi nal game the next day.
Both teams would have a slow start in the first quarter, with eight points total for the Miners and three for the Cossacks. The Miners would heat things up in the second, with a barrage of two pointers and a few spare free throws. In total, Wilton-Wing would rack up 22 points, while also blocking any attempt from Max to score. Heading into half
time, the Miners held a 30-3 lead.
Wilton-Wing secured another 10 points in the third, and eight more in the fourth, while the Cossacks would make a single two in each quarter. The Miners would
eventually take the win 48-7.
Hailey Quam would make 16 for the Miners, while Kesley Backman scored nine and Hannah Fischer made six. Kiara Johnson would
score five, Taryn Schurhamer would score four and both Tatelyn Schurhamer and Erin Thompson would make two.
