Miners bury Wildcats in homecoming game

Rarely will you see a more dramatic setting in a mid-season football game. Miner students, parents, and alumni gathered for one last homecoming football game in the purple and white before the co-op takes effect next year, and the rainy conditions didn’t deter a sea of fans from showing up in their team’s colors. Although Wilton-Wing has struggled this season, the big home crowd looked on them to deliver a knockout blow against the Center-Stanton Wildcats. If there were any doubts after the Wildcats scored the first touchdown, the Miner boys obliterated them by scoring the next 34 points on their way to the 34-16 victory at home on Friday night. "I preached to them all week that homecoming week is fun, but it doesn’t mean anything unless you win the game," said Wilton-Wing Head Coach Ryan Harty. Center-Stanton scored first and was threatening again on their next drive when the Wilton-Wing defense clamped down and stopped the Wildcats on a fourth down conversion attempt. Still not able to score on their own drives, an interception by Miner Christian Thompson gave them the spark needed with 2:56 left in the first quarter.
