A second-half injury to their number one shooter would spell trouble for the Miners, who eventually lost Monday night’s District 10 championship game.
The Wilton-Wing boys would have smooth sailing in the first round of the District 10 tournament, which started Friday in Washburn. The Miners took on Center-Stanton in their first game, quickly building a healthy lead.
Tucker Schiele would make a three for the Miners in the first, contributing to the 13 points total scored by the team in the quarter. The Wildcats would lag behind, only make a single two during the eight-minute period. Heading into the second, Wilton-Wing was up 13-2.
The Miners would score another 11 points in the second as the Wildcats attempted to chip away at the lead. Center-Stanton sunk two three pointers in the quarter, and another eight points, bringing the score to 24-16 Miners at half.
The Wildcats would pull out the big guns in the third, shooting four consecutive three pointers and tallying 12 points for the quarter. Wilton-Wing answered with 15 points of their own to hold onto the lead.
Center-Stanton finally seemed to lose steam in the fourth, tallying only three points as the Miners racked up 21, including three three pointers.
