Miner softball digging out wins

The Wilton-Wing Miners took to the diamond this past week hunting for victory.
The week started with a Tuesday, April 21 tilt against Century High School’s junior varsity squad. The game quickly turned into a high-scoring affair, as both teams hammered away at the ball and their opponent.
When the final out pounded leather the Miners managed to eke out the victory, 21-20.
Next up for the Miners, the Lakers of Des Lacs-Burlington-Berthold came calling, looking to put the clamps on the big sticks that the home team had been swinging. And for six innings they managed to do just that, holding the home team to just one run, a single marker in the fourth inning, over the first six stanzas, while the Lakers managed to light up the scoreboard five times, with three runs in the first, one in the second and one in the fifth.
When the Lakers pushed across another run in the top of the seventh, it looked like just that much insurance to the inevitable. However, either this is a Miner team that thrives on pressure, or they manage to brew up some espresso in the dugout between innings. Because, either way, the bats that had been dormant the entire game suddenly came to life with the game on the line, as the Miner offense started to light up the base paths and the scoreboard to the tune of six runs, culminated by a game-winning home run off the bat of Jade Koski.
