Sam Fears hit a hole-in-one on hole No. 2 at Painted Woods Golf Course on Monday, Aug. 19. This is the first hole-in-one for the course since it became an 18-hole course, and the first for Fears in his golf career.
Fears, 74, said in an interview that he has been playing golf seriously for about two years, but has played for about fifteen. He meets up with friends at least a couple times a week to play, and to maybe get a little extra cash.
"We play for quarters and dollars, nobody loses enough to ruin anyone’s lives," Fears said about friendly wagers on their golf games. Fears said he typically plays with other seniors at the course, since ‘the young guys beat me up too bad.’
He used a 6 iron for the 137-yard hole-in-one, witnessed by Jim Lorenz, Dan Denault, and Ron Solberg.
