The Wilton-Wing Miners girls basketball team has had a chip on their shoulder after dropping three straight games this midseason after opening up with seven straight victories. The Max Cossacks came to Wilton after a nice victory over Berthold their previous game but quickly found out that Wilton’s chip is still looming.
The game opened with a good pace but each team was unable to find the bottom of the net until Paige Hausauer hit a nice jumper in the lane. After the gate was cracked for the Miners, they exploded with points from an array of players and from all over the floor. Five different players contributed and the Miners played very good defense limiting the Cossacks to only four points in the first quarter compared to the Miners 17.
The second quarter was much of the same as the team played outstanding on defense and rebounded very well to limit the Cossacks possessions. The scoring also continued and was spread out through the entire team with 8 different players getting on the board, led by Mckenna Weisenburger with five points. The Miners took a 33-13 lead heading into halftime.
