The Wilton-Wing Miners girls basketball team opened their season last weekend in the 12-team McLean County Shootout. Wilton would be one host, along with Washburn High School the other.
The Miners would open versus Beulah in their home gym in the last game of Friday night.
The starting lineup for the Lady Miners has changed a lot from last year with a big senior class graduating.
McKenna Weisenberger and Brooklyn Vollmer were the only two girls to return as starters this year. The seniors, plus juniors Lauren Koski, Jade Koski and Tya Schiele, would be the starting five.
Head coach Lisa Jenkins would open the game with full court pressure. Weisenberger had the opening steal on Beulah’s first possession and followed that up with the first two points of the year.
The ball pressure was the story of the first half with Beulah turning the ball over trip after trip. The Miners were able to open a nice lead heading into halftime 26-10. Beulah was only able to score two points in the second quarter on some great hustle by the Miners.
