Lady Cards scrimmage Lewis and Clark North Shore-Plaza
Finally, basketball has come back to Washburn. The winter high school sports season kicked off on Saturday morning, as the Washburn Cardinals squared off against the Lewis and Clark North Shore-Plaza Wildcats in opening week scrimmage that gave both teams an opportunity to iron out some of the details as they prepare to head into the regular season.
With the clock running, and a regular officiating crew on hand, but no score being tallied, the Cardinals took to the hardwood looking to see what rewards would be reaped from the long off-season of hard work. From the opening tip, it was clear that once again this year the Cards would be led by there terrific trio of seniors, Ashlyn Schmitz, Dara Beck, and Monica Goven. Others who had a notable morning were juniors Kari Patterson and Mya Nelson, Sophomore Chev Obering and eighth grader Kesia Boeshans.
