Lady Cardinals plagued by turnovers

A ton of heart and hustle couldn’t make up for sloppy ball handling and shoddy defense in the Washburn Cardinals’ 49-36 opening-night home loss to Glen Ullin-Hebron last Monday.

The Red and White couldn’t recover from a slow start, as the opposition jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Ginger Goven (6 points) finally broke the ice with a close-range jumper at the 2:58 mark of the first
quarter.

An inspired effort from Olivia Retterath (8 points) helped narrow the deficit in the second quarter, as the junior forward pulled in tough rebounds on both ends of the court and earned a few trips to the charity stripe.
