Killdeer crushes dreams on homecoming
BY OWEN PATTERSON
In one of the most competitive and fun games the Southern McLean Roughriders have played in a long time, the Roughriders came just short of a dramatic win during homecoming. The
Killdeer Cowboys came away with a 30-28 victory to spoil a fantastic night in Washburn.
Southern McLean (2-4, 1-3 in the region) needed to win every game left on the schedule to make the playoffs. Killdeer, 0 -6 and already eliminated, came in with the opportunity to shatter the possibility of the Roughriders’ season extending.
Nothing was truly accomplished in the first quarter. Both teams gained a couple yards here and there, but no points were scored. Southern McLean sophomore quarterback Alex Retterath had a rough start throwing two picks in the opening frame.
