Garrison sweeps Wilton-Wing in double-header

The first double-header of the year also happened to be the first district action for both of the teams out of Wilton-Wing when the teams played a night of basketball in Garrison against the Troopers on Thursday. As it would turn out, neither match had a favorable outcome for the road team that night. The Wilton-Wing girls played a close game but the Troopers pulled away in the closing minutes, 46-39. On the other end of the chromosomal spectrum, Garrison shot the lights out in the first half of the boys’ game and the Miners couldn’t overcome the large deficit that resulted, 63-48. The girls were the first to take to the court for the double-header in a still very young season; this game being the second on the schedule for the Wilton-Wing Miners.
The teams played a give-and-take first quarter with the Troopers getting a put-back at the buzzer to have a slight lead 11-9. The second quarter played to the Miners’ favor and was started off by a long two-point shot by freshman Josie Hettich, tying the game at 13 points.
