The Washburn-Wilton-Center-Stanton Cardinals took to the diamond this past week for a pair of home double-headers against the Pirates of Kidder County and the Cougars of Central McLean.
First up for the redbirds, an April 30 tilt against Kidder County. The birds opened the game in fine shape, putting up two runs in the bottom of the first.
Unfortunately for the young Cardinal pitching staff, the Kidder County bats, which had been slumbering in the top of the first, woke up with authority.
The Pirates would score four runs in the second, five in the third, three in the fourth and nine in the fifth.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals offense, stymied by Pirate pitching, would strike only one time more, a single run the bottom of the second. Allowing the Pirates to sail away with a 21 to 3 victory in the first game.
