Cards lose steam in NSA loss

While some 3-point magic and a swarming defense had Washburn up by six halfway through the third quarter versus New Salem-Almont last Friday, the Redbirds couldn’t sustain the intensity in a 61-51 home defeat to their Morton County adversaries.
Buoyed by four treys from Aiden Parrill and Parker Jacobson, the Cardinals jumped out to a 15-7 advantage in the first quarter, as the Holsteins were plagued by early turnovers. But even more noteworthy was Washburn’s tight defense that prevented the opposition from getting off quality shots early on.
The Holsteins regrouped in the second quarter and began chipping away at the lead thanks in part to Washburn’s inability to secure rebounds. The two-man triple-threat tandem of Parill (14 points) and Jacobson (12 points) had the hometown boys up by 11 with 3:39 remaining in the first half. But when those 3’s stopped falling, the Cards couldn’t keep 6-foot-4 Wyatt Kuhn from cashing in of misfires with his rebounding prowess.
