Cards Advance, Miners Go Home
BY OWEN PATTERSON
Postseason volleyball is here. The 2021 Region 5 tournament got underway with two play-in games Thursday night. One of\ those was the third meeting between Wilton-Wing and Washburn this year, with this match looking a lot like the one before.
Senior Ginger Goven made the plays early on for Washburn. Goven got a kill and block to give her team the lead and the Cardinals kept it. Washburn led 18-13 before the Miners had to call a timeout. The break didn’t help Wilton as they would eventually fall 25-16.
With such a hot start, Washburn had a lot of momentum heading into the second set. Wilton-Wing continued to play tough and the Cardinals did not play a perfect game, but it was good enough. A 25-18 loss put the Miners in a desperate situation to keep their season alive.
