Cardinals split with Hazen

There are a few things in life that can be good or bad, depending on which side of the fence you stand on. Last Friday the Washburn-Wilton-Center-Stanton Cardinals found themselves on the bad side of the fence and the Hazen Bison found themselves on the good side. Hazen won the Region 8 game 8-0 with their No. 1 pitcher Kolby Metzger in top form, but fell in the night game 10-8.
Metzger only allowed four hits in six innings of action and pitched a complete game. Metzger was on target for most of the game – throwing 73 strikes out of 93 pitches, striking out 13 and allowing zero walks.
Meanwhile Washburn’s starting pitcher Danny Henke didn’t have the same command. Henke walked six in the game and was hurt by errors that allowed Hazen to score three unearned runs. Henke only recorded 52 strikes on his 102 pitches.
In the second game, the Cardinals were on the good side of the fence and Hazen was on the bad side with a pestering problem. The pitching for both teams was about equal – both teams recorded eight hits in the game – but Washburn only recorded one error in the second game and Hazen recorded six.
