Cardinals perched with fourth

The Washburn-Wilton-Center-Stanton baseball team put together some tough performances in the Class B State baseball tournament held at Jack Brown Stadium in Jamestown. It was the team's never quit attitude that helped them earn a fourth place finish amongst the top teams in the state. Against Bottineau, in their first game of the tourney on Thursday, the team was down 1-0 in the sixth inning. They remained there, struggling to get a run in against pitcher Mark LaCroix until the seventh inning. Then the right pitch came, and four runs later, the Cardinals had put Bottineau away 4-3 in the eighth inning. WWCS pitcher Kirk Sailer allowed four hits while LaCroix allowed five. Brett Schreiner added to the hit list and went 2-for-3, Zach Hruby, Evan Eberle and Connor Thompson went 1-for-3, while Jesse Henke had an RBI. In game two, the Cardinals were up against powerhouse Grafton. And right off the bat, the team was playing catch up. The first inning had Grafton putting up five runs to the Cardinals one run. By the fourth inning, the Cardinals were still stuck yet Grafton piled on two more runs to make it 7-1.
