Cardinals get first win at McLean County Tournament
By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service
In this still very young season with only two games behind them, the Washburn Cardinals girls’ basketball team was still searching for their first win of the year going into the McLean County Tournament in Wilton last week. The Cardinals would find that notch in the win column on the first night of the tournament against the Max Cossacks, but couldn’t replicate that success on the subsequent nights against the Underwood Comets and the TLMM Trojans resulting in Washburn taking fourth place over the weekend. Washburn played their first game of the tournament against the Max Cossacks, getting a big performance from senior Kennedy Retterath. Providing over half of her team’s total points, Retterath racked up 23 points along with 19 rebounds in the game, a season high in both categories.
