Cardinals finish regular season, hope to stay number one in district
By Danielle Abbott The Washburn Cardinals met Center-Stanton in their final regular season volleyball game of the year. The girls came ready to play, and head coach Stephanie Williams said that it was one of the best games that the team has played all season. The Cardinals knew that it would be a difficult match up, but they pushed their confidence and hit the floor with determination. The night started off with a bang as the seniors recognized their parents and showed their appreciation. The three senior volleyball players, Jennifer Wicklander, Joelle Reiser and Kelsea Kuch brought their parents to the floor and received flowers, balloons, candy and other goodies, along with words of encouragement and praise. The first game started out well and the packed gymnasium instilled energy into the players. The girls put up a good fight, but fell to Center-Stanton 18-25. The night began to worsen from there, losing the second and third games 16-25 and 12-25. Though the scoreboard did not end in Washburn’s favor, Williams said that the girls played a tough match. "We were moving quicker, hitting better and overall pumped up," William said, "It was great to see the desire in the girls."
