Cardinals beat Garrison but fall to Grant Cty
By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service
As the Cardinals of Washburn continued their campaign against district opponents playing the Garrison Troopers last week, they got another reminder, provided by the Grant County Coyotes, that the region holds potentially bigger challenges for them down the road. Despite a good effort by Garrison, Washburn didn’t have too much trouble pulling away in the second half, defeating the Troopers last Tuesday 49-41, but despite keeping pace with Grant County through most of the first half, the Coyotes turned it into a 60-32 rout by the final buzzer in Washburn’s second game of the week. Kennedy Retterath turned in another outstanding performance, heading up the Cardinal offense through all four quarters against Garrison. But the Troopers were finding the shots they needed and played Washburn very close through three quarters. The Troopers tied the game at 26 points apiece in the third before Retterath rattled off six points followed by another basket by Kenady Hanson. In the fourth quarter, four straight free-throws from Retterath expanded the Cardinal lead to nine points.
