The Washburn Cardinal girls took a pair of wins this weekend during this year’s McLean County Shootout, overcoming two sets of Warriors.
The Cardinals came out of the gates running on Friday, during their home game against the White Shield Warriors. Washburn would pull out a handful of twos, along with a three pointer from Jenna Retterath and Hannah Retterath, to take a 21-2 lead in the first quarter.
The Cardinals would continue to shut out the Warriors in the second quarter, allowing White Shield to only snag a single three-pointer over the course of the eight-minute period. In the meantime, Washburn racked up another 25 points, thanks in part to a three-pointer from Hannah Retterath and two more from Jenna Retterath.
At halftime, the Cardinals would be up 46-5.
Scoring slowed down slightly for the Cardinals in the second half, with Washburn taking ten points in the third and the fourth quarter. White Shield would wrangle up another nine points before the final buzzer sounded, but would lose the match 14-66.
