The Washburn Cardinals boys basketball teams finished off 2014 early all the way back on December 22, with a commanding district win against the Underwood Comets, 71-32.
They continued those winning ways to kick off 2015 at the McLean County Shootout with another pair of wins.
Having the opportunity to play a couple of teams that they normally wouldn't have the chance to come up against, the Cardinals use their breakaway ability to rack up a large lead in the second half of their games.
Against Trenton-Trinity Christian, the Cardinals were trailing by two points at halftime. But outscoring their opponent 21-10 in the third quarter, Washburn gained a lead that Trenton-Trinity couldn't come back from, winning 56-44.
"I was really happy with our balanced scoring, any time you can have four guys in double figures you’re doing something right. Jack had a good night offensively which was good to see as we look to him to be our third scorer," said Washburn head coach Derrick Seiler.
The story was very similar against a difficult New Town opponent the next day.
