Bowman County bullies the Roughriders
BY OWEN PATTERSON
The football field at Washburn High School was filled with fans cheering on the home team. However, the supporters saw their Roughriders fall to the Bowman County Bulldogs, 27-6 on Friday.
The action began with Southern McLean possessing the football. After a short run by John Marshall and pass completion to Hunter Koble, things took a turn for the worse. On third down, senior QB Will Koch tried to hit a screen pass, but a Bowman County defender jumped the route and recorded the interception. Four plays later, Bowman’s Clay Heimer ran in the game’s first score.
After another Bulldog touchdown and a quarter change, the Roughriders had to work uphill to get back in the game. The problem was that Bowman County was beginning to eat. The Bowman defense shut down the run game and put pressure on Koch consistently.
