Both Cardinal varsity teams had only one game last week; both competed last Tuesday. The girls were at home against the Solen Eagles, while the boys were on the road out west for a game against the Mott-Regent Wildfire.
Neither game presented much of a challenge to the Cardinal squads in their Tuesday night matchups.
The girls team jumped all over Solen in the first quarter, with a 16-4 effort, and even more impressively held the Eagles to only six points at halftime, 28-6.
Solen picked up their offense in the second half, but by that time the Cardinals couldn't be caught. Continuing to expand their lead, Washburn won this game easily when the final buzzer ended the night at 51-23.
The Cardinals girls had four players in double digits: Kaden Schulte, Mandy Schell and Kenady Hansen all had 11 points, while Alexis Waldren finished with 10. Nina White Eagle led Solen with seven points.
For the boys team, the game was competitive longer than the girls game, but the end result was still a large cushioned victory for the red birds.
