Washburn-Wilton-Center-Stanton (WWCS) and Beulah split their regular-season meetings. Now, they were facing each other in an elimination game. Both teams fought valiantly forcing extra innings but Beulah prevailed 12-9.
Landyn Miller started at pitcher for WWCS. Miller gave up a first-inning balk for a run, giving Beulah a 1-0 lead. WWCS didn't let Beulah hold the lead for long.
Logan Neuberger, Beulah's starting pitcher, gave up a run on a passed ball tying the game at 1-1 in the bottom frame. Neither team took control of the lead in the second and the game remained tied at 1-1 heading into the third inning.
Beulah made their move for control of the lead in the top of the third. Mason Mellmer hit a perfect bunt with base runners on first and second. WWCS committed a throwing error on the play, allowing one Beulah run to score.
Cruz Riegel, Beulah's No. 3-hitter followed with a sacrifice fly, giving Beulah a 3-1 lead. WWCS needed to answer and they did. Alex Retterath came to the batting box with runners on every base and one out.
Retterath hit a hard grounder toward Beulah shortstop Jacob Lagunas. Retterath's hit bounced strongly off the ground and just out of Lagunas' reach, allowing two runs to score and tie the game. Neuberger tried to recover in the next at-bat but committed a balk, allowing WWCS to take a 4-3 lead.
