Babe Ruth finishes runner-up in conference championship

For the first five innings of the I-94 Conference championship last Thursday, it appeared the Hazen Lumberkings were going to walk away with their third consecutive title with ease. A four-spot in the sixth inning made the Babe Ruth team fight for the right to continue their season. Underdogs in the tournament, Washburn made the title game interesting with a late surge that eventually fell short in the 11-6 decision. Washburn coach Dirk Hausauer noted that he was proud of how his 16-and-under baseball team didn’t sit down but fought to the final pitch. "I’m happy with the way our kids do stuff like that, they don’t quit," he said. "We start so slow and then we try to catch up in the end. Often times it catches up with us."
