Workshop helps farm women succeed

They work and manage their farms every day, but many area women have not been educated formally about the ins and outs of running an agricultural or ranching business. A new program provides an opportunity for women to learn about farm management. "Women play a very important part in farm operation," said Michelle Effertz, McLean County North Dakota State University extension agent. Next month, an educational program called Beyond Annie’s Project will give interested women the chance to build on the basic farm management skills taught during area Annie’s Project workshops, said Effertz, the program coordinator. Annie’s Project is a well-established program intended to better prepare women to deal with the responsibilities of a modern farm enterprise, including problem solving, record-keeping and management. Annie’s Project was created by Ruth Fleck Hambelton to educate farm women and nourish their confidence and business skills.
