Wing Public School students are enjoying a little more freedom and free time lately, as the school experiments with a four-day school week. Now in its second week without
mandatory Friday classes, Superintendent David Goetz said Wing is adjusting well to the trial session of Monday-Thursday weeks. Goetz said the idea of a four-day week came from observing how students seem to be less energetic and productive in the second semester of the school year, when holidays are scarce. “We are really trying to
avoid that second-semester burnout,” Goetz said.
A su rvey of t he community was done, showing positive feedback on the idea. Goetz said the school was wary of making such a significant of a change too hastily, instead agreeing to try out the four-day week schedule starting in late February. Any students who are passing all classes are able to be out of school on Friday, though anyone failing any course is required to come in that day. In addition, teachers are available every Friday until 12:30 p.m. to help any kids who elect to come in to get extra help.
