Wind speeds surpass 80 mph

An overnight storm left downed trees and fences across the county, and a local business needing a roof repair. Wind speeds were recorded at over 80 miles per hour in the area, with gusts of 83 miles per hour reported north west of Washburn and near Garrison. Widespread damage to trees, small structures and crops were reported, severe damage done at the
West River Telecom office in Washburn. Portions of the building’s roof were ripped off and a truck parked outside was severely damaged. An employee in the vehicle at the time was reportedly uninjured. The storm also dropped between a half inch and two inches of rain throughout the county, according to the national weather service. No injuries due to the
storm were reported.
