Wilton’s Centennial Park needs tree attention

After storms blew through Wilton recently, several fallen branches have become a safety issue to Centennial Park users. During the Aug. 3 meeting of the Wilton Commission, park board member Lisa Jenkins brought the safety issues to the attention of the commissioners. Jenkins explained that there are tree limbs hanging over the walking path that need to be removed. She spoke with city maintenance about the tree limb removal, but they do not have the equipment needed to take down the dead limbs. She requested that commissioners take a look during their drive around and hire somebody to trim the limbs. Jenkins said, “There are some trees that are hollowed out. You might want to have somebody professional come in and have them taken out.” Jenkins explained to new commissioners that Centennial Park is maintained by the park board, but is owned by the City of Wilton. Once the tree board was dissolved a few years ago, the city took ownership and asked the park board to maintain its upkeep, reimbursing them for mowing and other needs. She asked whether Wilton commissioners were willing to continue the relationship established with the Park Board and commissioners agreed that it should continue as before.
