Wilton sets spring cleanup

It’s time to spruce up Wilton before the arrival of Mother’s Day. City commissioners set Spring Cleanup Week for May 5-9, running Monday through Friday from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mayor Kyle Tschosik explained that residents will be able to take items out to the city landfill without cost except for appliances and tires. Commissioner Doug Archambeau asked whether the city landfill will take old computers. Commissioners said that the city can’t take computers, but Circle Sanitation will take them if they are set by the curb during regular garbage pickup days. The city will advertise the spring cleanup event in several places including in the Leader-News, on the water bill notice, and through flyers located at businesses and around town. In addition to city cleanup, commissioners addressed beautification of Wilton through a request from the Girl Scout Troop. Members of the local troop can earn a gardening badge and also do a community service project by planting flowers for the city. Troop leader and city commissioner Becki Boechler asked commissioners if the city would be willing to buy planters for the bench area in front of city hall, and allow the Girl Scouts to plant flowers.
