Wilton residents will see water rate increase

It might be just a drop in the bucket, but Wilton residents will be seeing a 10 cent increase in the water rates. During a shortened agenda of the Oct. 5 meeting of the Wilton City Commission, commissioners approved the increase. City Auditor Kelly Bauer explained that South Central Regional Water District sent a letter indicating that the cost of their services went up 13 cents per 1,000 gallons. Since commissioners previously approved keeping a one dollar leeway to provide for other water related costs for Wilton, the cost to Wilton residents will need to see a 10 cent increase. Commissioners noted that the flooding this year may have caused SCRWD to experience some unexpected issues as they work to supply water to the area. After brief discussion, commissioners approved the 10 cent increase. In unrelated business, Bauer informed commissioners that the city lot by the railroad has $27,380 in specials. Commissioners previously discussed whether to keep the lot or sell it. Individuals have shown interest in the lot which is zoned as industrial. Commissioners agreed to advertise the lot for sale on the web and elsewhere as needed at a minimum price of $27,380.
