Over 30 school representatives, parents and community members gathered in Wilton’s gym Friday to start etching out a plan for future Miner alumni.
A community gathering Monday night served as the official launch of the school’s new Profile of a Graduate program, a plan that aims to set career-centered goals for all Wilton graduates. In comparison to education-based objectives, Superintendent Andrew Jordan said the new program focuses on “soft skills” like being a team player and being an effective communicator.
The mission is to better prepare students for the workforce, something Jordan said a surprisingly-low number of graduates are.
“The percentage of employers that rate recent grads said they are 42 and a half percent proficient,” Jordan said, referencing a 2002 Inside Higher Ed article on proficiency and career readiness. “Whereas if you ask students, they rated themselves about 89 percent. That’s a vast difference.”
