2020 was ushered in with no law enforcement within the city for non-emergency situations. A police chief , Travis Tesch, was hired Saturday with a tentative start date in early February.

January plans
For the first month of the year, if a non-emergency call is made to 911, which is answered by the county dispatcher, the call will be noted by a dispatcher. Then the caller will be referred to the city's non-emergency number of 701-463-2296.
That's what was decided at a meeting between Mayor Stu Merry, City Attorney Jim Wilson and County Sheriff JR Kerzmann.
