Weathering the weather

Whether you’re hitting the roads or at home hosting this holiday season, the McLean County Sheriff’s Department says it’s important to be prepared.
“If you wait until the snow falls to think about what you need, it’s too late,” McLean County Sheriff J.R. Kerzmann said.
Kerzmann and Chief Deputy Richard Johnson said those planning on traveling should make sure to prepare their vehicles properly, even for the shortest of trips.
“Whether you’re going 50 miles or 10, you have to have what you need,” Kerzmann said.
Johnson said when roads are bad and visibility is down, drivers often end up in an accident or stuck on the side of the road.
“Make sure you have a full tank of gas in case you end up sitting and waiting,” Johnson said, adding that if you are running your vehicle while it’s immobilized, to make sure the exhaust pipe is clear of snow.
