Weathering the storm

There was more mud than music at Harmony Park last week, after an unexpected storm bore down on Washburn Friday afternoon.
A cramped parking lot quickly emptied out as rain pelted canopies set up for Friday’s Music in Harmony Park event. While some vendors tied their tents to vehicles and other weights, Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center staff members and other volunteers grabbed hold of ropes and posts to keep shelters from blowing away.
Minutes before the first band was set to hit the stage, the rain finally cleared, but the storm had done its damage, blowing away the majority of attendees. With wet grass and an empty park, organizers were faced with a tough decision.
Members of the three scheduled bands - Cotton Wood, McMahon Bros and Greg Hager - and Interpretive Center Staff met under a damp shelter and weighed their options, eventually decided to cancel music for the night and try again next month.
The event was rescheduled for the evening of August 11, with Cotton Wood and the McMahon Bros both performing. Greg Hager wasn’t expected to be on the lineup, but another act was expected to fill the slot. Free admission will again be offered on the day of the event.
