Waste Management gets garbage contract

Washburn city commissioners heard one complaint regarding service through Waste Management but it wasn’t enough for them to reconsider continuing their contract with the garbage service. They voted to extend their contract for three years at a 3 percent increase in cost per year. Commissioner Derek Laning talked with the City of Underwood to see their reasoning behind going with Waste Management. They highly recommended that Washburn continue using Waste Management. They reasoned that costs of other garbage services were rising at a higher rate and service has been good with little issues. Commissioners were all in favor of approving the contract. A representative from Waste Management was there to hear the news and he took the concerns of a resident with him to address with the company. The commission approved a renaissance zone application for Dean Swanson to build a new building next to existing buildings along US Hwy 83. The planning and zoning board recommended the project be approved. Half the building will be cold storage and half will be a heated shop. The commission approved a variance request for an expansion of the front of the Casey and Heather Neumiller house on 4th Ave. The expansion is one that other homes on the street have done. It would look similar to those. Other home owners were in approval of the project.
