Washburn school’s enrollment went up 10 students from last year. These new students, along with a large kindergarten class, aren’t the only newcomers arriving this year. Washburn has hired on three new faculty members: Brooklyn Schaan, Emily Johnston and Kari Sailer. The kindergarten class has 23 students, about double the size classroom as Brooklyn Schaan is used to. In her third year teaching, Schaan taught fifth grade at Turtle Lake –Mercer for the past two years. Schaan is originally from Beulah, N.D., and has a degree in elementary education from Minot State University and now lives in Underwood with her husband Chris, a Falkirk Mine employee, and their son Julius who was born in June.
