Members of the Washburn School Board were in agreement on two major points of last week’s board meeting: The plan for a schoolwide renovation was a good one, but the cost wouldn’t work. During a Sept. 27 facilities committee meeting and regular board meeting, Washburn School Board members reviewed what they hoped would be a final plan for a long-anticipated renovation project at the school. Representatives from Consolidated Construction and EngTech presented the plan -- which includes a secure entrance to the school, a three-floor elevator and renovation of the auditorium and old gym -- with an estimated total cost of $11.9 million. The cost includes construction
cost as well as architect and design fees, the cost of running a bond referendum and roughly $1 million of contingency planning.
