The Washburn Drama Club competed at State. As if that weren’t deserving enough of a celebration, they went on to win First Place and will go down in history as the 2014 State One-Act Play champions.

Director Vickie Mayer said, "This is just our second time as State champions – the first time was in 1997."

A total of 20 Class B schools vied for the State title in Jamestown on Nov. 24 – 25. Ten teams competed at each of the two sites on Nov. 24; the four "top teams" from each site went on to compete in the final round on Nov. 25.

Washburn’s final round performance of "Asylum" scored a "1, 1, 2;" runners-up Richardton-Taylor scored a "1, 2, 3," with a "1" being the best ranking a team can place. Mayer said, "One of the judges started out with, ‘Wow!’ They were impressed with our consistent characters, our use of levels and our set."

Tanner Due received the "State One-Act Superior Acting Award." One actor from each of the schools was a recipient of the honor.
