Washburn accepts grant for bus

The Washburn School Board accepted a grant at its meeting last week that will help pay for a new bus as the school retires one of the older ones.
The transportation committee for Washburn Public School recommended taking advantage of the Clean Diesel grant that the school was awarded recently by retiring one of the older buses in exchange for funding towards a new one. The grant covers 25 percent of the cost of a new bus, given that the school takes an older model bus out of service.
Superintendent Brad Rinas said the school hadn’t anticipated purchasing a new bus at this time, but that the grant provided a good opportunity for savings.
“Even though we weren’t planning on buying one this year, it’s a good idea to take advantage of the grant because we don’t know if these will be available in the future,” Rinas said.
