Veteran events set for Friday, Saturday

A plethora of local celebrations have been set in honor of Veterans Day and the 100th anniversary of the American Legion.
Wilton School
Wilton students will spend part of their morning Friday with local veterans during an annual assembly in the school gym. Students and staff members will pay homage to local veterans, then gather in the cafeteria for coffee and doughnuts with the servicemen and women. The assembly is set to begin at 8:30 a.m.
Washburn School
The Washburn school will open its doors on Friday afternoon with a veteran celebration from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. The event will be hosted in the school gymnasium, with local community members and veterans welcome.
Wilton Community
A Wilton celebration of the 100th anniversary of the American Legion is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Memorial Hall. The celebration will start with a welcome from commander Joe Heiser before Master of Ceremonies Don Weible takes the mike.
Featured speakers will include Wilton Mayor Leann Domonoske-Kellar, North Dakota American Legion Commander Glen Wahus and Adjutant General of N.D. National Guard David Sprynczynatyk. A lunch will follow the ceremony.
Washburn Community
A Washburn celebration will take place on Saturday afternoon, starting at 5 p.m. at the Memorial Building. The American Legion Post 12 will host an open house at 5 p.m. in the basement of the Memorial Building before a ceremony kicks off at 6:30 p.m.
The North Dakota Army National Guard 188th Army Band will start off the ceremony, with commander Darrell Hight giving a welcome and Rick Richard serving as master of ceremonies. Glen Wahus and David Sprynczynatyk will again present, as well as guest speaker Jesse Orgaard.
A community concert will begin at
9 p.m., with the band playing until 11 p.m. and a dance area cleared for attendees.
