Washburn seniors celebrated another step in their education with a certificate presentation and pizza party last Wednesday, after completing the Everfi Financial Literacy program under Farmers Security Bank.

The bank partnered with Washburn Public Schools in the fall to start the program, which was offered at no cost to students or the school. It aimed to educate graduating seniors on the importance of making informed financial decisions when it comes to items such as budgeting, mortgages, student loans, debit and credit cards, taxes and credit scores.

Now that the course is complete, students said they feel more prepared to tackle real-life situations.

"We learned how to protect ourselves," senior Carly Freeman said.

Others around the room echoed the sentiment, saying they learned about managing their money and about the importance of having a good credit score.
