Shooting for the moon

How far are you willing to go to get the photo? For one local photographer, the answer is about 800 miles.
Laura Gardner and her family set out on a week-long adventure last Wednesday, trekking west on a journey that’s been in the works for over a year. Their destination? The perfect vantage point for Monday’s total solar eclipse.
“My husband was at conference a year and a half ago and learned of the eclipse and that the southern part of Idaho would fall in the path of totality,” Gardner said. Gardner said her husband, Matt, has a relative in Rigby, Idaho, just about 760 miles west of Washburn.
Nature photography enthusiasts, the Gardner family knew capturing the solar eclipse was something they had to do.
“Both our families weren't surprised at all when we started planning this trip,” Gardner said. “They know how much we love adventure and catching anything sky and star related.”
But though Gardner had practice with capturing blood moons, the northern lights and the solar system, an eclipse was something entirely new.
