"The purpose of this discussion is not to say we’re ending Lewis & Clark Riverboat Days (LCRD)...it’s to get opinions and bring in new activities. We can’t keep doing the same things."
Washburn Civic Club President Tony Thoreson went on to say the annual event has suffered from lack of community participation and very few volunteers. "It’s going down hill," he summed it up.
The Civic Club’s Oct. 14 meeting included brainstorming to find ways to liven up the celebration.
Bill Harris, River Riders, said, "I have 16 members who said they are willing to step up and do whatever it takes to keep this going and make it better. They are 100 percent into this."
According to Harris, the River Riders have no problem putting on the street dance, again, in 2015. "We’re not doing it to make money."
Thoreson said the new owners of the "Riverboat Saloon" (formerly the Lewis & Clark Saloon) told him they are "fully on board" to do whatever it takes to help keep the street dance going, as well.
