The Southern McLean Roughriders played on Wilton soil for their homecoming game on Sept. 21.
Dickinson Trinity received the ball first, and Southern McLean battled to keep them under control. However, a touchdown pass and two point conversion early in the quarter started off the Titans’ lead at 8-0. The Roughriders were not able to advance towards a first down once they were on offense, so they were forced to punt. On defense, senior Tate Bertolotto recovered a Titan fumble, giving them another chance to advance down the field. The quarter ended with the Titans ahead 8-0.
The Roughriders gave up a seven yard touchdown early in the second quarter, and with the extra two points, the Titans’ lead was doubled. Dickinson switched back to offense quickly, due to an intercepted pass. This gave Dickinson Trinity another shot towards a touchdown, which they took.
The Roughriders held the Titans at the four yard line for two downs, but Dickinson Trinity was able to push through in their third attempt. No more touchdowns were scored in the second quarter, thanks to the Roughrider defense. Sophomore Karter Hansen made an important sack late in the half, forcing the Titans to punt. The first half ended 24-0 in favor of the Titans.
During halftime, the Homecoming Court from both Washburn and Wilton were announced. Once announced, they walked out onto the field and were recognized.
