Rescue Squad practices auto extrication

A weekend crash course involving the "Jaws of Life" tested the metal of Washburn ambulance personnel and firefighers. Emergency responders completed a 12-hour auto extrication training course to fine-tune the skills they will need as members of the Washburn Rescue Squad. Richard Perkerewicz and Chad Dahme are the instructors for the auto extrication course. The rescue squad is made up of ambulance service personnel and fire department members, Dahme said. They respond to auto accidents and rescue people from vehicle entrapment. Last weekend, members of the squad completed a North Dakota State Department of Health certification that must be renewed every two years, Dahme said. Most of the rescue squad members have completed the course before, he said.
