Patching up the project
By Alyssa Schafer
The street construction project has dragged on for two months longer than intended, but the underground work is finally complete. During this week’s city meeting Dave Thompson of Toman Engineering updated the commissioners on the project’s progress. Northern Excavating is done with all excavation work and is completing its inspection process, Thompson said. "We had a working inspection on it last week to make sure all the valves work before (Northern Excavating) left," Thompson said. One or more commissioners will accompany Thompson and other project heads on a final walk-through within the next couple of weeks. Commissioner Kim Klaudt addressed the issue that some curb-stops are too high and some of the fire hydrants are not at the proper height. Thompson said the mistake was made because the hydrants were originally intended to be set further into the boulevard. Toman Engineering will bear the cost of correcting this mistake.
