No decision on new wind rules

County representatives and landowners played tug of war during a public hearing last week, when they attempted to determine how much or how little to regulate wind farms.
No decision was made at the end of a 70-minute hearing over McLean County Zoning Ordinances on Nov. 7, with much of the discussion dominated by one topic -- wind turbines.
Changes to the zoning ordinance on wind farms were proposed earlier this year by State’s Attorney Ladd Erickson, who explained at the hearing that the county’s regulations are outdated.
“We were the first one in state to have (a wind farm ordinance),” Erickson said, saying the regulations date back to 2005.
Since then, a lot has changed, Erickson said.
“It’s pretty out of date,” Erickson said.
