NFL students have plenty to talk about

Sometimes waiting until the last moment can have positive results. Just ask James Cavo. The junior returned from the National Forensics League Nationals, along with graduate Alexis Kelsch and sophomore Nick Due, with a great deal of experience from the weeklong trip to Kansas City. Cavo’s main piece he performed was a poem called "The Congo" by Vachel Lindsay. Unfortunately he was knocked out in the first round with that piece so he decided to perform two supplemental pieces to try his skill in another area. So he performed "The Chocolate War" by Robert Cormier. This time he moved on and on until he reached the semi-finals, where he placed ninth in the division of 334. That’s ninth out of about 3,000 students that qualified for nationals. Those 3,000 qualifiers were out of about 100,000 that competed nationally. But he didn’t do it alone. Cavo was joined by his speech coach, Vickie Meyer, and other competitors, Kelsch and Due.
